Free Hula Hoop Building Craft Workshop for Kids

Do you have a kid that’s a total athlete? Well here’s a super fun project that will keep your kid spinning with delight all summer long! We’ll be making hula hoops from start to finish at this craft workshop at Meyer Neighborhood Branch of the Houston Public Libraries. Be sure to RSVP at your local library branch.

This is a 2 hour completely free craft workshop hosted by the Houston Public Libraries Summer Reading Program. The Summer Reading Program is the coolest way to find new awesome books during the summer. School’s out which gives us extra time for our favorite activity – reading! These art classes and craft workshops are a fun way to integrate some of our favorite books and try out new experiments and projects that we would never get to try in school!

We’ll bring all the supplies, knowledge, and everything you need to complete this workshop. Each kid will get to make their own hula hoop in the perfect size for their height – yes this is a big factor in making the perfect hula hoop. Then we will tape, decorate, and make our hula hoops into a style that we’ll like. If there is extra time, we’ll head outside to learn a few easy hula hoop tricks. We’ll walk you through every step of making the hula hoop so you can understand how to make a hula hoop for yourself in the future.

This workshop is best for kids 10 and up because taping the hula hoop requires a little bit of dexterity and patience. Got kids that are under 10? No problem – we would love to have them there! But please be sure that you are prepared to lend a helping hand to your kid if they need it.
